Itinerary
Be captured by the splendor of Italy´s natural scenery. See a lake surrounded by green cane thickets and hills covered with olive trees. Experience the serenity generated by the powerful beauty of the country´s spiritual places. Crossing the Tuscan countryside, the first town we will visit is Passignano sul Trasimeno, a small medieval hamlet with city walls and a beautiful fortress. This famous tourist resort is a magical place to view the enchanting lake and islands nearby.
Afterwards, proceed through gorgeous landscapes until reaching the hill on which the ancient city of Perugia sits. Evidence of its Etruscan origin is preserved in the travertine walls as well as in the well in the center of the village. Perugia is a popular Italian city of art, with a beautiful square where architectural jewels await to be admired. See the Palazzo dei Priori (1293-1443), the splendid Cathedral (1345) beside the Loggia (1423), as well as an invaluable 13th century sculpture masterpiece – the elegant Fontana Maggiore (1275).
Our excursion continues to the places where the patron saint of Italy, Saint Francis of Assisi (1181- 1226) lived, worked and died. On lowland at the foot of Mount Subasio we will first visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. It was built as protection for the famous church of the "Porziuncola," where Saint Francis acknowledged his vocation and founded the Order of the Minor Friars. Santa Chiara also began her monastic life here. See the "rosebush without thorns," which continues to grow. According to a legend, it originated when the Saint touched the thorny bush.
After lunch we will reach the center of Assisi. Here, depending onthe option selected, you will be able to explore this beautiful and magic place on your own, following your pace or led by a professional local guide who will be at your disposal to disclose you the secrets and the beauty of this unique town.
Breathe the special atmosphere of serenity and joy that this city emanates and you will understand why the delegates of the main religions in the world have chosen it as symbol of Peace.
