Detailed Description
We will pick you up at your hotel located in the heart of Iquitos to begin a two-hour journey by road to Nauta, the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon. From there, we will navigate the Marañón River, where, with a bit of luck, you may witness the mesmerizing dance of the elusive pink and gray dolphins in their natural habitat. Our journey will take us to the Yarapa River, where you will have the chance to swim in the Amazon waters, surrounded by pristine nature.
The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, located in the Loreto region near Iquitos, is one of Peru’s most important protected areas and the largest natural reserve in the Peruvian Amazon. Covering more than 2 million hectares, this reserve is home to a rich biodiversity, including iconic species such as the pink dolphin, jaguars, monkeys, and a vast variety of birds and plants. It’s a paradise for nature lovers, perfect for ecotourism and wildlife observation, with activities such as boat rides along its rivers and lagoons, jungle treks, and visits to local communities. The Reserve is crucial for the conservation of the Amazon and its ecosystems.
During the tour, you will enjoy a traditional lunch on board, tasting the typical cuisine of the Peruvian Amazon while marveling at the biodiversity of the jungle. With a bit of luck, we may spot playful monkeys, exotic birds, and an incredible variety of fish, including the famous piranhas. We will also have time to try our hand at piranha fishing using a handmade rod.
We will take a walk through the Amazon jungle. Discover the towering Lupuna Blanca, a massive tree over 70 meters high and centuries old. This natural giant stands as a guardian of biodiversity, surrounded by lush vegetation and fascinating wildlife. Its imposing trunk invites a moment to pause, contemplate its grandeur, and learn about its significance in the Amazonian worldview.
At the end of the day, we will return by boat to Nauta and continue by road to Iquitos, where we will drop you off just one block from the historic Plaza de Armas.
