Itinerary
Today we will go out to explore the Wonders of the Cosmos with this adventure to the Omega Astronomical Center in Vicuña.
We recommend you dress warmly and get ready for this unique experience that we will live under the starry sky. The skies in the Valley of Elqui, are a privilege for astronomical observation, with almost 300 days of clear skies a year.
We will depart from La Serena towards our adventure at 7:00 p.m. in Winter or at 10:30 p.m. In summer, this is due to the light at different times of the year. we will drive heading to Vicuña, a mountain town, approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, one trip that prepared us to see the wonders of the universe.
Once in Vicuña, We will immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of Omega Astronomical Center, a unique place where the exploration of the sky night comes to life, on the slopes of the Mamalluca hill.
This Observatory Astronomical is a venture of a group of friends who are amateurs of astronomy, with extensive experience and knowledge in the development of this type of activities throughout Chile.
The OMEGA observation terrace is located 15 minutes from the city of Vicuña, in the foothills of Cerro Mamalluca right under the best skies in the world for the Astronomical observation with a privileged view of the Elqui Valley and towards the main Scientific Astronomical complexes, such as Cerro Tololo, SOAR, Gemini Sur and Vera Rubin.
Once in Vicuña, We will immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of Omega Astronomical Center, a unique place where the exploration of the sky night comes to life.
We will start with a captivating introductory talk that will will immerse you in the fundamental concepts of astronomy. We will learn about the different stars that populate our celestial vault.
The experience reaches its peak with theobservation at through three high-power telescopes: 16”, 20” and 24”. marvel with the detailed view of stars, clusters and nebulae of our solar system, it will be spectacular.
We will take advantage of the clarity of the sky to take a tour to open eyeby the different constellations that can be seen. We will also discover the stories that ancient civilizations have woven in the stars.
After about two hours and a half approximately, we will have had enough time to explore celestial wonders and absorb astronomical knowledge taught by our expert guides.
After a full night of discoveries and sensations, we will return to La Serena, carrying with us the unforgettable images of the vastness of the cosmos.

- Pick up and drop off schedules considered from La Serena.

- Transfer from La Serena to Omega Observatory 1.30 hours.
- Bring a camera with night mode.
- As this tour is very subject to weather conditions, it is not advisable to leave it for the last day of your stay, as you would lose the opportunity to do so.
- Consider the lunar cycle for better observation and prefer moonless days. When there is a crescent moon and a full moon, the observation is not favorable due to the moonlight.
