Detailed Description
We will begin our exciting journey at the beautiful Plaza Regocijo, just a step away from the impressive Plaza de Armas in Cusco. Once we gather, we will board a comfortable tourist transport that will take us to the charming village of Cruspata. The road journey will last approximately 50 minutes and drop you off at the base of our incredible ATVs.
Our experienced professional guide will provide you with a detailed introduction to the route you have chosen, and you will have time to familiarize yourself with operating the ATVs. After a 30-minute training session, we will board the transport again to head towards Moray.
The first visit is the Moray ruins. It will be a fantastic 2-hour ATV ride around this place to then explore these Inca ruins with a walking tour of 20 minutes. The archaeological site of Moray is located 7 kilometers from Maras. Imagine the coliseums of Moray, composed of three enormous circular terraces, each with its own history to discover. The largest coliseum, with an impressive depth of about 30 meters (98 feet), offers a sight to behold.
Marvel at the agricultural terraces arranged in concentric circles, reminiscent of an ancient Greek theater. It is no wonder that the name Moray is related to corn cultivation, being called "Aymoray" in Quechua. Immerse yourself in the history of this place as you learn about its past as an agricultural laboratory.
Be amazed by the complex and advanced irrigation system developed in Moray, surpassing the expectations of its time. This visit not only provides you with a connection to nature and history but also enriches your knowledge of Inca agricultural innovations.
After exploring Moray, you will back to the base to leave the ATV and again take the transport to go towards the famous Maras Salt Mines.
Located just 40 kilometers northwest of the majestic city of Cusco, in the Urubamba province, you will encounter the impressive natural salt pools known as Maras, dating back to the Inca era. At an altitude of 3,300 meters above sea level, these pools are a true marvel of Inca engineering and construction.
You will be amazed to see how saltwater flows beneath the pools and evaporates, leaving behind salt crystals that form over 3,000 natural pools. Moreover, the views from this place are simply breathtaking as it sits on an open hill, creating a unique and spectacular landscape.
The picturesque town of Maras is dedicated to the production and commercialization of salt extracted from Maras, in addition to its agricultural and livestock traditions. After exploring this beautiful locality, we will kick off our exciting ATV tour of Maras. We have two fascinating routes to offer, and you can choose the one that appeals to you the most when making your reservation.
At the end of this fun experience, we will return to the city of Cusco to drop you off at the final point of the excursion, at Plaza El Regocijo.
