Detailed Description
Wat Bang Phra is a Buddhist monastery located approximately 50 kilometers west of Bangkok. This sanctuary is renowned for its daily Sak Yant tattoos, which are administered by the local monks. This tattooing tradition dates back several centuries. One of the most revered tattoos is the Gao Yord Yant, also known as the 9 Spires Yant. It is believed to provide protection and bring good fortune to the wearer, similar in significance to another Sak Yant design, the Hah Taew Yant. The Gao Yord Yant is typically tattooed on the nape of the neck. The 9 Spires Yant features a geometric design representing the 9 Sacred Peaks of Mount Meru and contains 9 symbolic images of Buddha, underscoring the importance of the number 9 in Buddhism.
This experience is quite unique in Thailand, as the monks only bestow these sacred tattoos and blessings on a limited number of people each day. Your guide will take you through the process at Wat Kru and explain the history of tattoos at Wat Bang Phra. Please note that you may or may not witness a tattoo demonstration, as some clients may request a private session. If you wish to get a tattoo, please inform us of your chosen design in advance. Tattoo fees are not included in the tour price.
