Detailed Description
We will start early in the morning, picking you up from your hotel in the charming town of Ollantaytambo, and take the road that connects to Quillabamba.
Our first stop will be the archaeological remains of Las Peñas, just 15 kilometers away. Here, in addition to exploring ancient Inca ruins, you can marvel at endemic birds such as the Chestnut-breasted Mountain-finch and the White-tufted Sunbeam.
Our journey will then take us to the majestic Abra Panticalla, where we will continue birdwatching in a spectacular high Andean setting. At a maximum altitude of 4,316 meters above sea level, the Abra Málaga Pass is a paradise for nature lovers and bird conservation enthusiasts.
Throughout the day, you will have the opportunity to spot an incredible diversity of birds, including the Inca Wren, Unstreaked Tit-tyrant, Cuzco Brushfinch, Rusty-fronted Canastero, Marcapata Spinetail, Creamy-crested Spinetail, Urubamba Antpitta, Red-and-white Antpitta, Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, and the Junin Canastero.
We will visit the charming dwarf forest of Canchaylloq, home to fascinating mixed flocks, and then delve into the mysterious cloud forest of San Luis for more birdwatching, where we will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch surrounded by untouched nature.
The number of bird species is impressive. Other species you might observe during the birding tour include Diademed Tapaculo, White-rumped Hawk, Barred Fruiteater, and Sword-billed Hummingbird.
Our return will be filled with exciting strategic stops to continue enjoying birdwatching, ensuring that every moment of your trip is memorable.
Finally, we will drop you back at your hotel in Ollantaytambo, filled with unforgettable memories and the experience of having explored one of the most beautiful and biodiverse corners of the world.
