El Escorial, el Valle de los Caídos & Segovia
Itinerary
Check in at our office in central Madrid 15 minutes in advance of your tour. Leave the city aboard one of our comfortable air-conditioned coaches.
Enjoy a guided tour through the Royal Monastery of El Escorial, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Built in the 15th century, it is a symbol of the power of the government at the time. See the impressive Royal Mausoleum and the story behind the 21 years it took to build the site. Of Renaissance style, you will marvel at the building symmetry. Listen to your guide explanations as you walk along the site visiting the Habsburg’s Palace, the Chapter House or the Basilica and the remarkable library.
Get back on the bus for a short trip to the next destination. The site is located 9km away from El Escorial, in Sierra de Guadarrama. You will be able to see it from far away thanks to the monumental cross, built above the site. The monument is an underground church built into the mountain. The same is topped by the World’s Largest Cross, which can be seen from miles away.
In the afternoon, we will discover Segovia, a small city that will surprise us from the moment we get off the bus.
Those who have chosen the option to enjoy Segovia at their own pace will be informed by the guide of the meeting point and the exact time of return to Madrid, so that they can organize their time at their convenience. This option includes admission to the Cathedral, so that they can visit it on their own during their stay in Segovia.
Those who have booked a guided tour will begin with a walking tour of the imposing Aqueduct of Segovia, one of the best-preserved Roman engineering works in the world, dating back more than 2,000 years. You will discover how it was built without cement and the route that the water took to reach the heart of the city.
From there, we will walk up to the Plaza Mayor, enjoying the charm of historic streets and iconic monuments such as the Casa de los Picos, with its 617 granite peaks, and the Plaza Medina del Campo, where you will find the Church of San Martín, built in 1117, and the Lozoya Tower, which you can climb in your free time to enjoy breathtaking views of Segovia.
Once we arrive at the Plaza Mayor, we will find various impressive monuments, such as Segovia City Hall, the Juan Bravo Theater, and Segovia Cathedral.
The tour continues to the Alcázar of Segovia, one of the most famous and best-preserved medieval castles in the world. The Alcázar may remind you of some Disney castles, as its exterior architecture served as inspiration for some Walt Disney films, such as Cinderella's Castle and the Queen's Castle in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
